For those wishing to retire in a living Eden, the Orosi Valley might be your ticket. With one of the earth's best temperature ranges, its nearness to the cultural center and best medical facilities in the country, the Orosi Valley has much to offer. Real Estate in the Orosi Valley is less expensive than the coastal areas. The coastal areas are hot ten months per year, with most daily highs in the 90's. In the highlands, we only sweat if we want to sweat. We have mild days in the 70's and mild nights in the low 60's.
Farms can be purchased for under $10,000 per acre. Some very large tracks of land are on the market for $3,500 per acre. Most small farms can be purchased from $10,000 to $20,000 per acre, depending upon amenities and proximity to main access roads. Land in Costa Rica is sold by the square meter. A hectare, or 2.47 acres, has 10,000 square meters. Land selling for $2.50 per sq. meter would be roughly $10,000 per acre.
Things to consider when purchasing land are:
- Is the property for your future retirement or for investment?
- What is your timetable for living on the land?
- Does the land have a clear title registered in the National Land Register or “Registro Nacional”?
- Does the land have available water and electricity?
- Is having a beautiful view or having a clear river on the property more important?
